The problem

Why classrooms sound so loud.

Classrooms and group rooms are acoustically among the toughest spaces there are: lots of voices, hard floors, large windows and smooth walls. Every sound bounces around and builds up. Children talk louder to be heard, and it keeps getting busier.

The effects are well known: tired voices and sick leave among teachers, concentration problems among children. For new builds and renovations, the Dutch Frisse Scholen programme also sets requirements for the reverberation time in classrooms.

Solid 9 mm PET-felt absorbs sound across its full surface. And because every panel is made from about 150 recycled PET bottles, you get a sustainability lesson on the wall at the same time.

Do the panels meet the Frisse Scholen requirements?

The Frisse Scholen programme sets requirements for reverberation time in classrooms. How much absorbing surface you need depends on the room; our felt absorbs up to 85% of the sound that hits it and we calculate per classroom what is needed. Ask for the calculation with your quote.

Is the material safe for children?

Yes. PET-felt is fire retardant (class B1), does not splinter, is soft to the touch and has no wooden slats or sharp edges. We include the certificate with the quote.

Can the wall double as a pinboard?

Yes, that is one of the best things about felt. Drawing pins hold well and the panel stays looking good. So the same wall absorbs sound and shows off the artwork.

When is installation done?

Outside school hours: during holidays, on training days or after school. An average classroom is done in half a day.

Can we pay by invoice?
